Germany developed "simulated textile technology"

The new T-shirt is always beautiful and comfortable, and the fabric is loose and comfortable to wear. This usually meets the needs of the fashion sector. But technical textiles can't just satisfy these needs. It must be functional while meeting comfort. For example, compression bandages must maintain a certain amount of pressure on the body. Therefore, the flexibility of the material to be produced must be good. Protective jackets must have a certain amount of flexural strength: if they are hit, the material protects the user from harm. The composition of the car seat must be durable, especially at its edge. Product manufacturers define product attributes through two decisive factors: the yarn, and the special structure of the yarn – such as yarn patterns or changes in the weaving process.

The mechanical properties of the yarn are relatively easy to distinguish: by inserting and stretching the device, it is possible to measure how much force is required to reach its critical value. Although it is difficult to determine the specific properties of a fabric, it is still necessary to test production. This can only be done naturally with the sample, as it is very expensive to complete all possible designs with multiple yarns.

At the Fraunhofer Industrial Institute in Kaiserslautern, the Germans developed a simpler and more straightforward way to improve the practicality of textiles. "We simulate the physical composition of materials," says Julia Orlik, a scientist at the Industrial Research Institute. "In this way, we can accurately predict the properties of the fabric through the composition of the yarn and yarn." Through this simulation, the researchers can imagine all the patterns and yarns and analyze which one is more in line with the desired function of the fabric. When using this method for the first time, the researchers have already simulated the connection structure of the yarn. Later, the scientists calculated the optimal yarn configuration by calculating various parameters.

Recently, researchers are thinking about how to adjust the stretch of the yarn to make the fabric more widely used. The process is that when a manufacturer proposes a fabric that requires a certain function, scientists can create new fabrics by simulating the yarn and its structure.
